I just saw a documentary about Andy and his achievements. I agree that they are controversial because anyone could have done that, but thats whats so good about them. They captured a time period. His films are very interesting especially the one of the man sleeping for six hours, or the one of portraits filmed for fifteen minutes. I could imagine doing this. What I liked so much about these films is that he just didn’t tell people what to do and in that they did improvisations. I liked that he just kept at it. But the interviews that he was in and the side that was shown and the personalty traits that I was able to see, showed a person that was very snobby and pretentious. I didn’t like him very much. If I were to pick up anything from his techniques it would be to paint on top of a silkscreen print. I like this technique and I will probably try to use it one day.

The last time I really felt out of place was when I was late boarding a plane. I was with my boyfriend and I was still getting used to the idea of getting on a plane. I had ridden a plane once before but was nervous that time, and didn’t trust it this time as well. But I had to get on the plane to go home. So we were late getting to the boarding and received a C class boarding opportunity, which meant that we would be the last to board. I didn’t know that there was no assigned seating here and was upset to find that there were no places where two seats were open for me to sit next to my boyfriend. I began to worry when I thought that I had to ride next to a stranger. I was already outside my comfort level getting onto the plane, and the extra frustration was too much to bear. I reached the back of the plane and turned around an looked at my boyfriend and began to get mad and say how I was going to just get off if I couldn’t sit next to him. I just didn’t feel comfortable. When he said that there was nothing he could do I began to cry. I really felt like getting off and waiting for another flight. Then to my relief, when everything was getting too much to handle, some nice person got up and moved for me. I sat down and my boyfriend sat down next to me. I wiped my tears and shook my head from side to side. Then I smiled at him since my comfort slowly came back. The ride wasn’t that bad. When I got off the plane I felt relieved to be home. I now will check for assigned seating for future flights.

I decided to choose to research this artist because of how contemporary and flexible his work is. His work takes a basic line and takes it farther in meaning, in space, and in motion. He enlarges the line design to get a reaction from the viewer. He makes a drawing three dimensional and becomes a transcriber to a gesture and retains the one idea to free it and make it live in the world. He is interested in filtering out all the noise of life and focusing in on what is important. I never thought about it this way, he says that if one thing has a story, then the millions of things we see everyday have a separate story, and if we tried to see them all at once then nothing is seen or noticed. We tune it out. What he is trying to do is try to see a bit more deeply into things. Not just what is on the surface.

I think its brilliant what he is doing, and the way that he had to go through sculpture and enlargements to get to now what he is doing in his paintings. I think is a wonderful concept. He plays with ideas that are opposite to eachother like his odds game with four aces and four kings, the weak vs the strong, and the weight of gravity vs the lightness of weight.  Also how time, mass, length and temperature are all interlinked.  I really like how he plays with the idea of linking figures to abstractions. He worked with abstracts for a long time only to turn out and put them in a figure form, to get an abstract figure. I love it. 

His work is daring, complex, and fun.

He makes you question what looks right to you, and wants you to build a reaction and respond to it in your own way.

Its just cool to see something this creative but so simple in thought. Just building on one single idea until it becomes something else entirely, but keeps the same origin at heart. When it comes down to it his ideas start out simple and small and grow as his concept grows. I personally like his movement in his work, he plays with the line until it becomes alive.
